Worried vs. Afraid

Hi guys❗ I'm sure that you have ever heard these words, which sometimes are confused.

Worried
If 👨👩 are worried, they are 😐 because keep thinking about problems, or something unpleasant that might happen.
     Why Mike had that worried expression the last weekend?

     She is worried about her mum.
                    worried + about + sb
     I was a bit worried about the exam.
                         worried + about + sth
     Mike was worried that he couldn't have enough time to finish the project.

Afraid
You could be afraid if you get 😧 because you think that 👨/👩 or something could hurt you, or a bad thing may happen.
      I'm afraid of heights.
              ↳ afraid + of + sth
      Her mum has a terrible temper so her's afraid of her.
                                                                      ↳ afraid + of + sb
      Mike's afraid of letting them down.
                   ↳ afraid + to + infinitive      Maggie's never afraid to say what she thinks.

Remember❗
When we want to say that somebody think too much about a problem, we say that they are worried.
While, we use afraid of someone or something when people feel fear.
In case people seems to be worried because they are thinking that something bad may happen, we say that they are worried about/that it or they are afraid of/to it.
