Football

Hi guys❗ As you know the Football ⚽ Cup starts in some hours, how many words and expressions related to footie do you know❓

In case you can't remember some of them, dónt 😟. I'll remind you the most well-known, they are:

Footie /ˈfʊti/
It is the informal way football is called.

Ball /bɔːl/
Football is played with a ⚽. 

Pitch /pɪtʃ/
The pitch is a marked out area of ground on which a sport, like football, is played.

Football Match  /ˈfʊtbɔːl mætʃ/
A football match is an organized football event between two teams.

Half  /hɑːf/
One of the two parts into which a football match is divided. This could be first/second half.

Extra Time /ˌekstrəˈtaɪm/
A period added to the end of a football game in some competitons if neither team has won after normal time. Usually, it takes 30 minutes.

Penalty Shout-out /ˌpenlti ˈʃuːtaʊt/
An occasion when each team in a football match takes penalty kick until one team misses the goal. Used as a way of deciding which team will win when the ordinary part of the match has ended in a draw.

Penalty /ˈpenlti/
A chance to kick the ball into the goal in a game of football.

Goal /ɡəʊl/
The net or structure that football players try to get the ball into.

Goalpost /ˈɡəʊlpəʊst/
One of the two posts that the ball must go between to score a goal.

Referee /ˌrefəˈriː/
The person who is in charge of the game.

Yellow Card /ˌjeləʊ ˈkɑːd/
The referee shows a yellow card to a football player in order to warn them that they have done something wrong.

Red Card /ˌred ˈkɑːd/
This card is shown to a football player for a serious offense against the rules, ordering them to leave the field. 

Footballer /ˈfʊtbɔːlə/
A football player, especially a professional one.
